Esta oración me la enseñó Rosalba, mi profe de inglés del colegio. Desde entonces me gusta mucho y la recuerdo con frecuencia.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Belief in a higher-level pattern facilitates action. Collective action creates and sustains the pattern, which in turn justifies the belief in it. So we believe that the individual is mobilized by a higher force and spirit, because he actually is.
By believing we create the supra-organism, and by giving to it, we receive benefits from it. We create a self-fulfilling prophecy. We set in motion a self-sustaining pattern, like a community of mutually cooperating agents in an iterated game of the prisoner's dilemma. Such a community could only have begun with a leap of faith in the reciprocation of other agents.
